When you choose the right duvet, it helps to ensure a good and comfortable sleeping environment.
Size
We recommend that your duvet is at least 20-30 cm longer than your own height. At JYSK you will find duvets in 200 and 220 cm in length, respectively.
Insulating performance
At JYSK, we categorize the insulation capacity into cool, warm and extra warm respectively. When deciding which degree of heat is right for you, you must consider both your body temperature during sleep and the temperature you prefer to have in your bedroom.
Contents of the duvet
Duvets are available with several different types of filling. The filling can be divided into two categories:
Full of nature
Fiberfyld
Which type of filling you should choose is a matter of taste and preference.
Full of nature
Natural stuffing usually consists of down and feathers, but can also be other natural materials such as silk, cotton and wool. The advantage of natural filling is that it is breathable and falls easily around the body. From nature’s side, this filling is equipped with the best imaginable insulating ability.
Carrying capacity
Carrying capacity is the most important measure of the quality of down and feathers. The carrying capacity is an expression of how much air is in the filling. Down with a high carrying capacity provides a light and full duvet and therefore insulates best. The more feathers that are mixed in the down, the lower the carrying capacity is achieved and the heavier the filling.
At JYSK, we have adopted a new method for measuring load-bearing capacity. We now place load-bearing capacity for down and feathers on a scale from 100 to 1100, which is also seen on, for example, down jackets and down sleeping bags. Before we placed the carrying capacity on a scale from 2 to 16.
During the transition period to the new carrying capacity, you will be able to find duvets and pillows with different carrying capacity values depending on the measurement method. The properties of the filling are of course the same.
Silk
Silk duvets are typically a thinner duvet, but still retain the same amount of warmth. They are temperature regulating, which ensures that you are dry and temperate throughout the night. Silk is also a breathable and antibacterial material, which gives you a hygienic and comfortable sleeping environment.
Fiberfyld
Fiber filling consists of polyester fibres, which are manufactured in such a way that they imitate the insulating properties that natural filling contains. Fiber filling also has the ability to effectively transport moisture away from the body. The filling in these duvets has a higher weight to achieve the necessary insulation. This type of duvet is therefore heavier than duvets with natural filling, but usually also cheaper.
Cover
You also need to consider which duvet cover you prefer. All our duvet covers at JYSK are made of cotton, polyester or a mixture of the two materials. Here you can consider whether you prefer a thick or thin cover.
Hypoallergenic duvets
Many mistakenly believe that it is down and feathers that they are allergic to. It is only 2-3% of the Danish population who cannot stand down and feathers. At least 7% and probably many more are allergic to house dust mites. If you are among the 2-3%, we of course recommend that you choose a duvet with a fiber filling that does not contain down or feathers.
House dust mite allergy
It is difficult to completely avoid house dust mites in your home. However, you can limit the number and their ability to reproduce by cleaning your bedroom often and washing your duvet, pillow and possibly top mattress 5-6 times a year. This deteriorates their living conditions, but even the best duvets and pillows cannot withstand such frequent washing over a long period of time.
If you are hypersensitive to house dust mites, you should therefore consider an allergy-friendly duvet. These typically have a treatment that helps reduce the penetration of dust mites into the duvet. Therefore, you can just wash your duvet the normally recommended 2 times a year, which extends the duvet’s life considerably. In JYSK you will find the following allergy brands:
Products that carry the label “Trust in textiles” meet the strict test criteria set up by the international OEKO-TEX® association, and are free of substances harmful to health.
Summer or winter duvet?
Whether you have to use the same duvet all year round or switch between a summer and winter duvet depends on your indoor climate. If you are able to maintain a constant temperature in your bedroom all year round, there is no need to change the duvet. If, on the other hand, the temperature changes in line with the temperature outside, it may be a good idea to switch to a cool duvet in the summer and to a warm or extra warm duvet in the winter. This can help you achieve a more comfortable sleep.
