Maximizing the Absorbency of Your Tea Towels: A Simple Guide
If your tea towels aren’t performing as well as you’d like (struggling to absorb water or drying too slowly) don’t worry; there’s a simple fix. To boost their absorbency, try soaking new tea towels in cold water for a full day before their first use. This process helps open up the cotton fibres, enhancing their ability to soak up moisture. Additionally, it helps remove any excess dye residue. For even better results, add a splash of vinegar to the soaking water. The vinegar helps bind the dye to the cotton, ensuring your towels maintain their colour. After soaking, wash the towels at 60 degrees Celsius to complete the process.
One crucial tip: avoid fabric softener when washing your tea towels. Fabric softeners can leave a coating on the cotton that reduces its absorbency and drying efficiency. By skipping the softener, you’ll keep your tea towels performing at their best.
