If you need a new armchair, there is a sea of options to choose from. The most important thing is that you consider what exactly your needs are, where the chair will stand and what you will use it for. That way, you’ll figure out what to prioritize and what to opt out of.
Do some thinking before buying a new armchair
It is important that you give yourself plenty of time to consider what your needs really are in relation to your new armchair. Is it an armchair with different functions? Should it be in fabric or leather look? How practical should it be? Also remember to consider the following:
The height of the backrest of the armchair
Should it be with or without armrests
The practicality: material and color
Comfort and quality
High or low armchair?
An armchair with a high backrest is good if you want to sit relatively upright in your armchair or just want an armchair that completely envelops you. Choose a high backrest if you love to read while lounging in a good chair, or if you want to work with your computer while sitting relaxed and comfortable. The high backrest of the armchair also ensures that you do not sit and collapse in the armchair, which can cause both pain to your back and neck.
There is great variation in relation to the size of armchairs. A small armchair is often simpler and thus also lighter. It therefore does not require the same space as a large, heavy and in some cases more functional armchair.
Whether you need a small or large armchair is therefore largely influenced by what you primarily think to use your armchair for, but also how much space you have to deal with. Should your armchair interact with other furniture, or should it stand in a corner of the living room? If you choose an armchair with armrests, you get more comfort, but it can also mean that the chair gets more fullness in width, and it requires a little extra space.
Choose an armchair that fits with the rest of your living room
It is important that you choose an armchair in a design that matches the rest of your living room. For example, think about which legs are on the chair. If you choose an armchair with wooden legs, choose a wooden variant that matches the look that your wooden things have in the rest of the living room, such as your coffee table, bookcase or chest of drawers.
Is a fabric armchair a good choice?
Many modern armchairs are made of fabric, which makes it possible to get a soft armchair in an exciting color. A fabric armchair can be impregnated to make it more resistant to stains. The impregnation, for example, causes liquids to bounce off when it hits the fabric.
When choosing the color of a fabric armchair, you may be inclined to think that the darker it is, the more practical. However, this is not always the case, as the sun can bleach the color of a completely dark armchair if it is placed in bright sunlight. An intermediate item such as grey may be preferable, as dust and stains are more camouflaged.
