Guide to choosing between foam and spring mattresses

Category: Sleep

Getting the right mattress for you is crucial in the quest for a good night’s sleep.  The main two options are foam and spring mattresses.  They both have their unique attributes.  Understanding the characteristics of each will help you make an informed decision aligned with your personal preferences and needs.

Foam Mattresses

When choosing a mattress that provides you with the best possible level of support and comfort consider the unique benefits of foam mattresses, namely their contouring properties.  Overall, they provide great support by molding your body shape.  Available in different sizes, they are ideal for relieving pressure points and reducing motion transfer, making them a great choice for couples or light sleepers.

Memory foam, a common type of foam mattress, offers a plush feel that cradles the body.  Available for single 90×200, double in 140×200, 160×200 and 180×200. They have differing firmness levels and the core is made up of Polyether foam, coir and polyether foam.  The fabric composition is 100% polyester and the quilting is 150g/m² polyester wadding together with 15g/m² nonwoven polypropylene.

Spring Mattresses

On the other hand, spring mattresses are constructed with coils that offer bounce and support. They provide a more traditional feel with added breathability due to the space between coils, promoting airflow and keeping you cool during sleep. Spring mattresses come with ventilation strips and have upward of 275 springs per square metre. Made from 76% polyester/23% viscose/1% cashmere they are profile from 2-sided. Quilting is 9mm memory foam 40kg/m³+ together with 180g/m² polyester and 180g/m² polyester.

Choosing Between Foam and Spring Mattresses

The million-dollar question is whether to opt for a foam or a spring mattress. Always consider your sleeping preferences and requirements. If you prefer a mattress that contours to your body and reduces motion transfer, a foam mattress might be the best fit. On the other hand, if you enjoy a bouncier feel with added support and breathability, a spring mattress could be more suitable.

Top Mattresses: Importance of Protection

Regardless of whether you opt for a foam or spring option, protecting your mattress is essential to ensure its longevity and maintain warranty coverage. Using a mattress pad or waterproof mattress protector can safeguard your mattress from spills, stains, dust mites, and allergens. This extra layer of protection not only prolongs the life of your mattress but also helps preserve its quality over time.

Consider factors like comfort, support, motion isolation, and breathability to determine which type of mattress aligns best with your sleep preference.  Enjoy restful nights on a comfortable mattress!
